Philosophy & Vision

My own therapeutic journey began after finding body psychotherapy. It was the first therapy I experienced that truly connected the mind and body. The core of this style believes that structure is behaviour, form is function. A person can only do or feel what their body allows them to do. It follows that if you want change to occur, the body must change too. This is why we will talk, but we will also do physical body work.

The people who work with me are looking for a space where there is safety, commitment, curiosity, and warmth. They often experience physical symptoms or pain related to their problem. For instance, someone who 'keeps their mouth shut' wants therapy not only to help assert themselves, but to relieve the tension in the jaw, to breathe deeper, and speak their minds.

Background

Following studies in physiology, pharmacology, psychology, and body psychotherapy, I began my work as a therapist. Before this, I worked with young people for many years doing coaching, tutoring, and mentoring. I was, and am still, passionate about the harm reduction community in which I was a community leader with the Australian Psychedelic Society.

Since beginning work as a therapist, I am continuously satisfied with the opportunity to help people in this way. I remain close to my community, Functional Analysis Australia, which I promote and carry the torch for the new generation of body psychotherapists in Australia.
