Ms Elizabeth King

Ballow Chambers

Spring Hill, Brisbane QLD 4000

In Person + Telehealth

Philosophy & Vision

I offer psychotherapy for adults with a variety of clinical and non-clinical issues. My style and framework is suited to those who wish to better understand their inner world, find connection with and recover their Will and true self. And those who wish to find a better balance of connection and boundaries/autonomy in relationships.

I offer both long term psychoanalytic therapy, as well as briefer experiential modalities for life transitions, loss, or meaning and decision-making.

I also offer supervision and experientially focused non-clinical support for psychologists, psychotherapists, and helpers in various arenas who wish to process undigested aspects of their work.

Background

Elizabeth has spent over 25 years immersed in the field of psychology, across theory to research, teaching, and practice. She has over 20 years of clinical psychotherapy and counselling experience.

She has experience treating patients with a variety of presenting issues, and has worked in a number of settings including community mental health, university student counselling, drug and alcohol services, and private hospitals.

Elizabeth is a sessional academic and ACAP UC in the discipline of Counselling, and has previous experience providing Clinical Supervision to Psychologists in Training at QUT, and as an Associate Lecturer at UQ and sessional tutor at QUT.

    Therapy Approach

Elizabeth offers psychodynamic psychotherapy, and is particularly interested in Psychoanalytic Self Psychology.

From this framework, therapist and patient work together over time towards a deep understanding of the patient's emotional life - this can lead to greater self-acceptance, a more cohesive 'sense of self,' as well as a reduction in symptoms.

Mindfulness and ACT techniques also may be offered to encourage reflection and self-awareness, and a capacity to manage difficult emotions.
