I have worked in Health Care as a nurse for over 40 years, I developed a strong interest in addressing a focus on listening to people & find it rewarding to walk along side clients. I found often as a Nurse & Midwife, people often just need a chance to talk, & to be heard.
-
I try to always be person centred & remind myself to put myself in the clients shoes. I endeavour to use a non directive humanistic approach. The core belief that you inherently drive personal growth & self actualisation.
-
John Bowlby's Attachment theory emphasises the importance of early emotional bonds serving as a foundation for future relationships. He proposed these bonds are vital for survival & emotional development. Having healthy awareness & a strong sense of emotional self enables us to have a better understanding of ourselves & how we relate to others.

Just walking through the therapy door & being vulnerable to seek help means a person is already progressing. I like to provide information, articles, things to work on in between session to help assist that progress.
When a client feels that their distress is settling & that it is no longer dominating their well being. -
Becoming a therapist has opened up new pathways & has hopefully changed me as a person.
-
When a client goes finds a new way to think & feel about something, that had been previously causing so much pain, when they say "actually maybe I don't need you any more!, because they can manage by themselve's!.
-
I do & I have learnt to be mindful of healthy self-care. I try to practice self compassion in those moments.

That we often don't have a village to support us, that people can be very vulnerable to isolation. We all need our village.
