Philosophy & Vision
I’m Jennifer Nurick, a Clinical Psychotherapist and author of Heal Your Anxious Attachment, with 21 years’ experience. I work with adults and couples experiencing anxious or avoidant attachment, childhood trauma, complex PTSD and recurring relationship difficulties.
I believe challenging patterns are often protective responses shaped by earlier experiences. You may understand the past but still fear rejection, seek reassurance, withdraw from intimacy or repeat painful relationship cycles.
My warm, relational approach integrates attachment-based therapy, IFS, EMDR, somatic psychotherapy and polyvagal theory. Where appropriate, I also include energy healing and spirituality. Together, we explore the wounds beneath anxiety and withdrawal, helping you build greater security within yourself and your relationships. I offer online therapy across Australia and internationally.
Background
> My professional path began with two years of Kinesiology and two years of Energetic Health, followed by training in Transactional Analysis. I later completed a Postgraduate Diploma of Counselling, a Master of Counselling and Applied Psychotherapy, EMDR certification, Yalom Group Therapy training and advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. Over 21 years in private practice, I have continued extensive training in attachment, trauma, somatic psychotherapy and IFS. My work is also informed by my own long-term journey through psychotherapy and energy healing, which I share in *Heal Your Anxious Attachment*. I remain engaged in personal therapy and monthly clinical supervision to support reflective, ethical practice.
Services
I provide individual and couples therapy for anxious and avoidant attachment, childhood trauma, complex PTSD and recurring relationship difficulties. My warm, non-pathologising approach helps clients understand the protective patterns beneath anxiety, withdrawal, conflict and emotional overwhelm. Therapy is personalised and may integrate attachment-based therapy, IFS, EMDR, somatic psychotherapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. Where appropriate, I also incorporate energy healing and spirituality. My aim is to help you develop greater internal security, choice and connection in your relationships. I offer online sessions across Australia and internationally, as well as small therapy groups.
Quality Provision
I am a PACFA Clinical registrant committed to ethical, trauma-informed and client-centred practice. I maintain service quality through regular clinical supervision, ongoing professional development, personal therapeutic work and current professional insurance. Therapy is collaborative and tailored to each client’s needs, preferences and goals. Therapy Approach
My approach is integrative, relational and non-pathologising. I use an attachment-based lens to understand how early relationships shape present-day patterns of anxiety, withdrawal and connection. Internal Family Systems (IFS) supports compassionate work with protective and wounded parts, while EMDR and somatic psychotherapy help process trauma held beyond conscious thought. With couples, I use Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy to identify and transform recurring cycles of pursuit, withdrawal and disconnection. Where appropriate, I also integrate energy healing and spirituality. Therapy is gently paced, collaborative and tailored to your history, needs and preferences, supporting greater security, connection and choice.

A conversation with Jennifer Nurick

I grew up in housing commission in a “rough” area of town, witnessing coercive control and codependency within my family of origin. Later, I recognised how these early experiences had shaped my own anxious attachment patterns. My personal healing journey through psychotherapy and energy healing transformed my relationship with myself and others. From that experience grew a strong desire to help others understand the patterns they inherited, heal the wounds beneath them and create more secure, connected lives.
-
Irvin Yalom’s deeply relational and existential approach has strongly influenced how I understand the healing power of an authentic therapeutic relationship. Internal Family Systems shaped my belief that every part of us has a positive intention and that healing emerges through curiosity and compassion rather than judgment. EMDR deepened my understanding of how unresolved experiences remain active in the present. My spiritual practice also informs my trust in the wisdom, wholeness and healing capacity that exists within every person.

I’m deeply interested in attachment theory and attachment healing, particularly how anxious and avoidant attachment patterns develop through early relationships and childhood trauma. I’m passionate about helping individuals and couples transform recurring relationship patterns and build secure attachment. I’m also interested in spiritual development and the journey of reconnecting with the deeper wisdom and wholeness beneath our protective patterns.

I use an integrative approach combining attachment-based therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), parts work, EMDR, somatic psychotherapy and polyvagal theory. For couples, I use Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and IFS to help transform anxious–avoidant cycles, conflict and emotional disconnection. Where appropriate, I also incorporate energy healing and spirituality to support attachment healing, trauma recovery and greater relational security.

Progress looks different for every person and depends on what brings you to therapy. I have worked with clients whose panic attacks resolved within two sessions, while permanently changing deeply established avoidant attachment patterns may take 18 months or longer. Some people notice greater understanding or relief early, while deeper attachment and trauma work unfolds gradually. In our first session, we will discuss your goals, history and circumstances and develop a realistic sense of what the therapeutic journey may involve for you.

Therapy has been life-changing for me. It has helped me understand and work through present-day relationship struggles, heal anxious attachment patterns and cultivate earned secure attachment. Through therapy, I have developed greater self-compassion, choice and security, as well as a more connected relationship with myself and the people I love.

What I love most is witnessing the transformation. The moment someone begins to soften towards themselves and meet their pain with compassion instead of judgment. I often see energy return as old patterns release, creating more freedom, flow and joy. It is a privilege to witness people reconnect with their strength, wisdom and authentic Self. Seeing that change lights me up too.

Of course, I’m human! Some days I feel tired or less energised than usual. My spiritual practice, time in nature and commitment to looking after my health generally keep me grounded, energised and motivated. I also value rest and self-awareness, so I can recognise what I need and continue showing up fully for the people I support.

I believe one of the most significant problems we face is a lack of compassion, for ourselves, for one another and for experiences different from our own. When we meet fear and pain with judgment, division grows. Compassion helps us remain curious, recognise our shared humanity and respond with greater wisdom. The more compassion we cultivate internally, the more we can bring it into our relationships, communities and the wider world.
